The South African Cameron van der Burgh on Sunday imposed a new world record and pocketed the victory and the gold in the 100 meters breaststroke at the Olympic Games in London.
Van der Burgh stopped the clock in 58.46 seconds, 12 hundredths below the record Australian Brenton Rickard won the world championships in Rome in 2009.
